Should you use Spotify Ad Studio?
Hey friends!
Today we’re going to talk about if artists should use Spotify Ad Studio.
If you didn’t know, Spotify has it’s own ad platform called Spotify Ad Studio. Through it you can run audio ads and video ads to people on the free tier of Spotify, and choose to show your ad to the fans of almost any artist on the platform. You can even retarget your own fans if your audience is large enough.
But is it worth it?
Spotify Ad Studio Setup
The specific type of campaigns i’ve run have been click campaigns.

Inside of them you can turn on ‘artist tracking’ to measure streaming metrics in your campaign.

In addition to some general interests, you can target specific music artists on the platform. This means you can show your ad to the exact fans of the most important artists in your genre.

Spotify has both audio and video ads. The example i’m going to show you today was using audio ads. The audio ads require a voiceover, I had Spotify record the voiceover for me.
Spotify Ad Studio Results
The data we’re about to look at is a $200 Spotify Ad Studio campaign I ran for my song Come Alive by Every Waking Moment. You get data inside Spotify Ad Studio, but it’s kind of messy to look at. So I made my own spreadsheet.

You can see I tried running this is Mexico, Spain, UK and US. In some cases the streams per new listener were quite good! However the cost per new listener was over $1 in all my ad sets, and up to nearly $3.
We can get much better results than that with ads. This is why you don’t hear me talking much about Spotify Ad Studio - it’s just pretty expensive, and we can only reach free Spotify users with it.
I’ve run several other campaigns in ad studio and while some have been better than this, nothing even gets close to running Meta ads. From the other people I know that have used it, they tend to agree.
New Content
The conversion API (CAPI) inside Facebook ads allows you to capture more data, which helps your campaigns perform 5-10 better almost instantly. Here's how it works.
